As I ponder women in the church, my thoughts are filled with women who had great influence on me, growing up as a Christian. Oh, yes I know that of late, I quote this theologian or author and that they are often men, but as I do a quick count of all my years in church, there were far more women that trained me up than men.
I don’t recall being rocked in the church’s nursery or coloring Bible pictures in the toddler class but since I know that my parents took me to church from the time I was born, I’m sure that there were faithful ladies in the church who served God in those areas, so that my young parents could attend.
But I do remember all my Sunday School teachers. There was Agnes Merida, Opal Hutts, Marge Sciscoe, Betty Garrison & others, who every Sunday morning had a Bible lesson prepared, and sometimes I felt like it was just for me.
